As you can hear, I could not be more than pleased with the design, build, and overall retro feel of this product. As you also hear, there are some some negatives, such as the right-shift key, but these to me have not detracted from using the device at all. With another year, comes another update. Having re-written this section of the review multiple times now feels just the same as the world felt when the April update slipped it’s April 10th release schedule date. Oh, that faithful Patch Tuesday, now come and gone. Nobody really knew what caused the update to slip a full 20 days, but it was most likely for the right reasons. Twice when installing the so called released build, 17133, my humble Lenovo Ultrabook machine randomly rebooted the update from the beginning – prompting me to retry each time. If you were holding out on redesigned AirPods like I was because of their Frankenstein look, then you will probably still be waiting until 2019 based on the latest AirPod rumors. I finally gave in to getting a pair of AirPods after going through at least a dozen bluetooth headsets over the past year. Many mainstream publications picked AirPods as Apple’s best product of last year. After testing out a demo unit in the Apple Store, I have to agree that they really do offer a huge upgrade on all of my previous bluetooth headsets. They are easy to use, and the sound is impressive.
AirPods are designed to work with an iPhone with Apple’s proprietary features, but in my opinion they are also the best bluetooth earbuds for my Pixel XL phone. They fit well in my ears and sound better than my previous bluetooth earbuds, and come with a tiny charging case.
