3D Ultrasounds for Expecting Mothers and Fathers Who Are Visually Impaired

Cool Blind Tech logo

Many years have passed since I had the experience of finding out I was going to be a parent. My youngest is ten now but, none-the-less I still remember the awe and wonder I shared with friends and family as I passed around each of my children’s ultrasounds.

Proud and nervous at the years of parenting to come, I still felt frustrated not to be able to see the ultrasound or feel it in any way. Expecting mothers and fathers who are visually impaired no longer have to go through this frustration. Votrex, a family-runned company in Poland has developed a 3D printing project called In Utero 3D.

From this project the owners of the company have started a 3D printing program for expecting parents who are blind to be able to print a bas-relief model of their soon to be born child to feel. The program is called Waiting without Barriers and works with parents in multiple countries around the world.
