City transit improves accessibility by using new app

Brampton Transit in Canada is becoming more accessible for those with autism and cognitive special needs.

The transit agency has announced a new partnership with MagnusCards intended to make it easier for these individuals to access the services it provides.

What is MagnusCards?

MagnusCards is a free app that breaks tasks down into how-to card decks that provide step-by-step guidance along with pictures to assist those with cognitive special needs complete common activities.

Who was the app designed for?

The app is designed to assist those who may not otherwise be able to engage with the world in a meaningful way, and it’s developed by caregivers of those with cognitive disabilities.

How can the app assist the user?

The app can assist with the entire process of taking Brampton Transit, including planning a trip, paying the fare, boarding the bus, riding safely, and how to transfer buses.

The information can be found by searching MagnusCards in the travel section, and the card decks can then be downloaded directly to a phone to avoid having to be connected to WiFi or use data to access them.

The partnership between Brampton Transit and MagnusCards is part of the transit agency’s commitment to making transit more accessible to residents of the city.
