Marwa Mohammed, a jewellery and bags designer, has created an accessory collection made of silver using the Braille language, to help empower people with disabilities and make them happy.

She told The Gulf Today that she wanted to create something unique and special, without using the common standard language either in Arabic nor English. Thus, she started learning Braille to know how to write and read this language for visually impaired people.

“It took around two months to learn the Braille language at the Emirates Association for the Blind, and it was easy to learn since it becomes very simple if you know the basics, and I decided to write some positive words on silver pieces that inspire people such as: strength, happiness, positiveness, and so on,” she mentioned.

When asked about the challenges, Marwa replied, “I went first to some special needs associations and I asked them to support my idea of having this kind of accessories which can be bought by the visually impaired or even normal people, since it carries a very humanitarian aspect. However, they were not convinced with the accessories, as they believe that it is something useless.”

Now she is dealing with Sharjah Ladies Club to put her collection for sale at the Collage Centre in a special collaboration.

She is also looking forward to work on other material and designs using Braille to make people with determination happy, such as T-shirts, bags, and key medals.
