Handsfree Calling Comes to Google Home

If you have a Google Home voice activated speaker, you can now make calls in the U.S. and Canada to anyone in your contacts list and local businesses. Just say things like:

  • Ok Google, call John Smith
  • Ok Google, call Target
  • Ok Google, call the nearest coffee shop
  • Ok Google, call Mom
  • Google Home now supports multiusers, so if you say, “Call Mom,” the device will recognize your voice, and call your mom, instead of another users mom.

For now, when you place a call using your Google Home, the recipient will not see your number displayed. They possibly see “no caller id,” or in my case, “restricted number”. If you connect your Google Home to a Project Fi or Google Voice number, the recipient should see your number displayed. Google plans on making all numbers display by the end of the year.

Note; Google Home can not be used to make calls to 911.
