Coming in September with iOS 17, Apple offers a solution if you change your iPhone’s passcode and forget it shortly after.

In iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, you can reset your iPhone or iPad’s new passcode using the previous passcode for up to three days after making the change. In simpler terms, Apple allows you to revert to your old passcode within 72 hours of setting a new one. This feature proves especially useful for individuals who tend to forget newly created passcodes.

Here’s how to utilize this feature:

• If you enter an incorrect passcode on an iOS 17 device after changing it, select the “Forgot Passcode?” option located at the bottom of the display.
• This action triggers the Try Passcode Reset option, enabling you to use your old passcode to create a new one.

iOS 17 Passcode Reset Feature:

For added security, iOS 17 introduces the “Expire Previous Passcode Now” setting. Keep in mind that activating this option means you won’t be able to use your old passcode to unlock your device if you forget your new one. Here’s how to enable this feature:

• Open your device’s Settings.
• Scroll down and select “Face ID/Touch ID & Passcode.”
• Under “Temporary Passcode Reset,” select “Expire Previous Passcode Now.”
• Confirm your decision by selecting “Expire Now.”

By following these steps, you can efficiently manage your iPhone’s passcode on iOS 17, whether you need to reset a forgotten passcode or strengthen your device’s security.
