You can use Live Text in either the Camera app or the Photos app. These steps will use the Photos app, but the Live Text feature is identical in both. Please note that this feature requires iOS 15 or later.
Open the Photos app.
Select to open the photo containing the text.
Select photo with text
Select the Live Text icon. This will appear in the lower-right corner when the Live Text feature recognizes available text in the image.
Long press to highlight a word, then drag your finger to highlight all of the text you want to translate. This will automatically open the Live Text toolbar.
Select the over arrow to find the Translate option.
Select Translate.
The first time you use this feature you will have to select Continue to consent to send the selected content to Apple.
The translation will default to a language based on your phone’s language settings, or you may be prompted to choose a language.
Scroll to the bottom of the screen to choose options like Change Language or Copy Translation.
Currently available languages include Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin—China mainland), Chinese (Mandarin—Taiwan), English (UK), English (US), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, or Spanish. New languages are being added all the time, so check the list if you want a different language.
