Apple’s native Mail app got a few new features with iOS 16, including the Follow Up feature. Using AI, the feature will remind you to follow up with someone if you haven’t heard back from them after a certain amount of time.

On certain emails where you have asked a question or for a response, you will see a Follow Up button when you select them in the Sent folder in the Mail app. Emails that your Mail app thinks you might want to follow up on will also be boosted to the top of your inbox after three days with no response.

On your iPhone, open the Mail app.
Go to Mailboxes and select Sent.
Select a recently sent message that contains a question.
Just under the address bar, you will see a button that says Follow Up…
If you select the button, it will take you to a new blank email, already addressed to the same recipient as before, to make following up about an unanswered email that much quicker!

How to Turn Off Follow Up in Apple Mail

On your iPhone, go to Settings.
Select Mail.
Toggle Follow Up Suggestions to off. It will be gray when disabled.
