Imagine being in the middle of a city for the first time, you feel lost, disoriented, you don’t know what’s around you.
What is Lazzus?
Lazzus is an assistant that accompanies blind and visually impaired people as they move around, creating an auditory field of vision.
It points out useful things around you, such as pedestrian crossings, street intersections, stairs and businesses, helping you to get around safely and explore your surroundings more intuitively. It also guides you to places you never thought you’d be able to go without someone’s help.

Not that I am a jerk, or anything like that, but I believe there is no such word as “disorientated”, the word is “disoriented”. It just really bothered me.

Here is some background information from the developers in naming the app.
First of all, it came from the Spanish word “Lazarillo” that means “blind´s man guide”. They didn’t want to use a totally Spanish word, because they are available in Spain, UK, Germany and other countries (by the way, in 2 weeks the app will be available in the US).
Also here is a direct quote from the CEO of the company, we like the idea of “giving light”, so we like something like “Light us”.
We finally mix “Lazarillo” and “Light us” to get the final name “Lazzus”.
