There are many apps out there that will monitor and present information about your computer, but one in particular does it in a unique way. CHARM from DragonApps is a simple Windows utility that sits in your system tray and reports changes in your computer’s activity such as CPU load, ram and disk usage—just by using sounds!
How does it work?
When you launch CHARM, you are first asked to select a soundpack. At this time of writing, there are nine to choose from. Once you chose your desired pack, the app hides in your system tray and begins to monitor your computer for any changes. The way CHARM represents system usage highly depends on the soundpack you chose. For example, a water soundpack will change in volume (the higher the usage, the louder the sound). Likewise, the computer fans may increase or decrease in pitch. The system tray icon allows you to configure the app such as adjusting the volume or loading another soundpack.
One great thing about this app is that since it doesn’t need to be installed, you can run it from anywhere—even a flash drive. Also, aside from the various soundpacks that are available to you, you can also create your own.
