Pornhub is rolling out an update to the website that will add in closed caption for its videos. As one of the world’s largest purveyors of porn, the site has taken unique steps towards accessibility, with this just being the latest example.
Corey Price, Pornhub’s VP said, “Here at Pornhub, it’s important that we continue to service all of our users’ needs and make content accessible to every individual.”
Pornhub previously launched a descriptive video section for the blind back in 2017. So far these features are only on some of the website’s videos that are in the major categories for sexuality/gender identity.
The project was the product of Pornhub’s more wholesome edge, Pornhub Cares. Which, regardless of your feelings about the platform, Pornhub offers some interesting content. It includes scholarships, educational videos for safer sex at various ages, panda conservation, and other causes.
For example, as the action starts, in all caps, white text over a black background scrawls across the screen.
“OH. OH, OH! OH! OH! O-GOD!”
Can’t help but wonder how is it that a porn site is ahead on accessibility when most government and corporate websites are either fighting website standards or are forced to update their websites through litigation.
