With CES 2018 quickly approaching, Samsung has decided to show off some projects that it plans to take to the tech expo from its Creative Lab (C-Lab) programme. C-Lab has been busy at work on three different projects.
Relúmĭno has been created to aid the visually impaired, a portable directional speaker called Sound-Ray (S-Ray) and there’s a new app called GoBreath which aids recovery of those with lung damage.
Jaiil Lee, Vice President and Head of the Creativity & Innovation Center at Samsung Electronics, said:
“Since launching five years ago, our C-Lab program has gained exciting momentum across Samsung, helping foster an innovation culture, and providing avenue for our creative, talented employees to pursue innovative new projects. We will continuously introduce innovative projects through our C-Lab program.”
The Relúmĭno, a headset which has smart visual eyeglasses to help those with vision problems to see images more clearly. The device has been developed on top of an app which carries the same name and was demoed at Mobile World Congress 2017 – the eyewear lets people use the technology more comfortably than using an app. The glasses will require a connection to the Relúmĭno app in order to function.
The S-Ray speaker aims to offer the same features as existing directional speakers while being small and mobile. The S-Ray will allow users to listen to music for long periods without having to wear earphones which could become painful to use. Samsung says it will showcase “product options such as Neckband, Handy and smartphone cover” at the event next week. No pricing has been announced for the product.
There’s the GoBreath app was created by a doctor at the Samsung Medical Center and aims to be a recovery solution for people “who have experienced lung damage and suffer from postoperative pulmonary complications after general anesthesia.” The GoBreath app is also accompanied by a portable device to use according to the instructions given on the app to learn things such as deep breathing. Doctors can track a patient’s progress via a web and cloud service.

Other start-ups which spun off from C-Lab will also be showcasing their newly released commercial products at CES to explore new business opportunities.
