After December 31, 2017, the Groove Music Pass streaming service will be discontinued. Before then, you’ll be able to use your Groove Music Pass through the end of your subscription. If your Pass subscription goes beyond December 31, 2017, Microsoft will give you a prorated refund or a Microsoft gift card.

The built-in Groove Music app will continue to play all the music you’ve purchased and downloaded or uploaded to OneDrive, but will no longer stream or play any Groove Music Pass content.

Should you download and back up your purchased music?
Hell yes! Music will not be available for purchase or download after December 31, 2017. So, before December 31, 2017, download any tracks you’ve purchased to your devices to make sure you still have access to your music. If you want to have the songs available on your other devices, you can do that by uploading your purchased music to OneDrive or another cloud storage service. If you don’t use OneDrive or another cloud storage service, you can also transfer your purchased music from one of your devices to another device for your own personal pleasure.
How to download purchased music
Open Groove, go to your music collection and select the Purchased filter. Select your music files and download from the menu. The process may be slightly different depending on the device and operating system.
How to move your music to Spotify?
By mid-October, an update to the Groove Music app will be available for Windows 10 and Xbox One devices. Once the app is updated, Groove Music Pass subscribers will be able to move existing music collections and playlists to Spotify. Groove Music Pass content will be available to move to Spotify until at least January 31, 2018.
So what happens to your music after you move it to Spotify?
All the music that has a match in Spotify’s catalog will magically appear in your Spotify library and playlists. All your purchased or uploaded non-Groove Music Pass music will remain untouched in the built-in Groove Music app. Groove Music Pass content will continue to be playable until December 31, 2017. Music you own and that is stored locally on your hard drive or on OneDrive or other cloud storage device will be untouched and will continue to be playable through the built-in Groove Music app.
What’s happening to Groove Music on iOS and Android?
You can still listen to music you’ve purchased and downloaded or stored on OneDrive using the Groove Music iOS and Android apps. But you won’t be able to stream music with Groove Music Pass so get cracking and move your music before time runs out.
