Ford’s Feel The View Could Be Available Next Year for Under 100 Euros

A new device, called Feel The View, helps blind passengers experience scenery while traveling.

The panel is fixed to a window, and a camera inside the device takes pictures of the view. A shape detection algorithm then analyses the picture and converts the light into nano vibrations, which are then transmitted to different touchable surfaces for the user, the more the light, the higher the vibration.

A device tester, Antonio Bruno, said the device is effective: “After a bit of training, it conveys certain emotions because the vibration penetrates through the nerve endings of the fingertips in a deeper way than what you can experience with other systems.” read more

Ford Creates Prototype That Allows blind Passengers to See Outside the Car

Ford revealed a prototype technology, called Feel the View, that allows the blind passengers to “feel” what they can’t see outside a car’s window.

The automaker released a video this week showcasing the technology.

Here’s how it works: A camera attaches to the car’s window and takes photographs of the view outside. Those images are then reproduced as a grayscale rendering in the window glass using special LED lights. When touched, the different shades of gray vibrate at up to 255 different frequencies. By feeling the image, a visually impaired person can mentally recreate the view outside. read more
