Google launches Assistant Interpreter Mode app’ on the Play Store

Last December, Google brought Assistant’s real-time translation tool to mobile after debuting on Smart Displays and speakers earlier in 2019. Google is now providing even quicker access to Assistant Interpreter Mode with a dedicated app shortcut for Android.

The “Google Assistant – Interpreter Mode” app is less than a megabyte in size and joins your homescreen as “Interpreter.” Selecting it launches Assistant fullscreen into the translation UI. Google Assistant Now Has Interpreter Mode on Android and iOS Devices

Google has announced an Interpreter Mode for Smart phones. The real-time translation tool is now coming to Assistant for Android and iOS with a new Smart Replies capability.

Like on smart home devices and Assistant headphones, you can launch Interpreter Mode by saying “Hey Google, be my French translator” or “Hey Google, help me speak Portuguese.” Assistant slides up a sheet and you can start speaking.

You’ll then see and hear the translated conversation on your phone. After each translation, the Assistant may present Smart Replies, giving you suggestions that let you quickly respond without speaking—which can make your conversations faster and even more seamless. read more

Google Assistant’s Interpreter Mode Now Translates 26 Languages on Your Smart Speaker

Last month at CES19 Google demonstrated a new interpreter function of the Google Assistant that lets you speak one language to the device and have it translate what you said into another. Now Google’s support page has revealed that the interpreter function is rolling out to Google Home and smart display devices, as reported by Android Police.

The interpreter mode supports 26 different languages and can be invoked by asking the Google Assistant to help you speak a particular language or to “turn on interpreter mode.” On smart displays, the feature will display the translation, as well as speak it aloud. read more
