Blindfold Games Developer Awarded 2019 Touch of Genius Prize for Innovation in Assistive Technology at #CSUN19
Marty Schultz, founder of Blindfold Games, an app development company that builds accessible games for the visually impaired community, and co-founder of Objective Ed, an organization providing students with disabilities with educational games to achieve the best educational outcomes, has been named one of two recipients of the 2019 Touch of Genius Prize for Innovation along with a $5,000 award. Schultz was recognized for this honor, bestowed annually by National Braille Press, during a reception at the 34th CSUN Assistive Technology Conference in Anaheim, California on March 13.
Japanese Doctor Develops New Technology for the Blind
Chieko Asakawa, a Japanese doctor and inventor, is developing a new technology that will aid visually impaired individuals. Her passion for advancing technology for the visually impaired started when Asakawa had a swimming pool accident when she was 14 which caused her blindness. She is now working with other companies to improve the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help people live a normal life.
Microsoft Hosting Workshops During Ability Week
Microsoft has announced that it will be hosting ‘Ability Week,’ a week full of workshops focused on accessibility in technology, from May 29 to June 2. Workshops range from ‘Deaf and Hard of Hearing Day: Minecraft Coding workshop’ to ‘Mobility Day, Build the Robotic Finger workshop.’ The programs will be held at Microsoft stores across Canada, U.S. and Puerto Rico.
