Blind and visually impaired children are learning to scuba dive thanks to a special program in Berks County.
The Heritage of Greens Hills in Cumru Township hosted the scuba diving class instructed by the Adaptive Diving Association. Participating children came from Vision Corps, a Lancaster nonprofit that empowers people who are blind or vision impaired to attain independence.
“To see people who never thought they have access to finally have the ability to do something they never dreamed possible, it’s fantastic,” said Kenneth Hoser of the Adaptive Diving Association. “When people think that they can’t do something, no, they can. Somebody just has to make it available,”
The Adaptive Diving Association has been organizing instructive programs for more than three decades.
