The world’s first wearable tech nail that doubles up as a phone has been unveiled by mobile operator O2, claiming to let users literally “talk to the hand”.
Developed in collaboration with inventor Sean Miles and beauty brand Nails inc, the prototype Mobile Nail contains embedded technology that allows it to operate as a mobile “handset”.
The idea is that users can talk to their friends by simply raising their finger to their face.
A miniature Bluetooth chip in the nail pairs with a mobile phone that can be stored away in a pocket or a bag, allowing the user to answer a call, play a song or redial the last dialled number by pressing a button on the nail.
“We are always looking ahead to the next developments in mobile and to be able to bridge the gap between fashion and tech is a really exciting challenge,” said Nina Bibby from O2.
“People have been customizing mobile phones for years but this is the next step towards tech becoming part of how we decorate our bodies.”
The Mobile Nail can be modified with different nail art designs, with a range of manicures exclusively designed by Nails inc to complement the look on the rest of the hand.
Customers will be able to take a call with the modified nail at the Nails Inc nail bar in Harvey Nichols, London, over the next week.
