How To Check AirPods’ Battery Life on an Android Device

Cool Blind Tech logo

AirPods are designed to work with an iPhone with Apple’s proprietary features, but in my opinion they are also the best bluetooth earbuds for my Pixel XL phone. They fit well in my ears and sound better than my previous bluetooth earbuds, and come with a tiny charging case.

Before, there wasn’t an easy way to check your AirPods’ battery life on Android like it does on Apple devices, but now there’s an easy solution. All you need to do is download AirBattery, a free app from the Play Store.

AirBattery shows your AirPods’ battery life on Android devices. Once the app is set up, opening your AirPods charging case will launch a pop-up window on your smartphone that displays the remaining battery life (just like an iPhone would). There’s also a lock screen notification to display battery life, but you’ll have to pay for the app’s Pro mode to unlock that feature. It also makes it easier to navigate as a TalkBack user with the upgrade, but user experience may differ depending on your device.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Launch the Google Play Store and search for “AirBattery” developed by Georg Friedrich, or just go here.
  2. Install the app on your Android device.
  3. Once installed open the lid of your connected AirPods’ charging case. This will show a popup on your device, revealing the battery levels of each AirPods and the battery case.

Note: The battery level of the AirPods and the battery case will only be displayed when both the AirPods are inside the case.

There are a few caveats, you can’t check it’s remaining power unless both of the AirPods are inserted. The app also only shows battery life in 10% increments.

AirBattery also works with BeatsX headphones, and the developer plans to add support for a few other Beats models in upcoming updates.
