Enter a recent CES 2021 Innovation Award honouree called the Mudra Band from Wearable Devices.

How does the Mudra Band work?

Working in conjunction with an Apple Watch, the Mudra Band uses a sensor to detect electrical signals sent by your brain to your fingers. A deep-learning algorithm then analyzes those impulses and maps them to a corresponding finger movement. It sends that information to your Apple Watch with the help of Bluetooth LE. You set the action each moment triggers. In that way, your ring finger can activate Siri while your pinky can skip songs. read more

With the onset of Apple to deliver Apple Watch 6, a technique containing patent has been granted to Apple. The patent includes techniques for delivering information to a user devoid of audio or visual outputs. Tactile outputs are being used by the watch band to convey notification to a user.

Here’s how both of those new features work.

Headphone Audio Level

In iOS 13, you can now view audio levels from the headphones you use. Apple categorizes your headphone volume levels into two decibel levels: “OK” to “Loud.”

How can you find this data? On your iPhone running iOS 13, open the Health app and select the “Search” tab along the bottom. You should then see a new “Hearing” option, select that and look for “Headphone Audio Levels.” read more

How To Change Your Region in Settings to Access the Apple Watch ECG Feature

Only U.S. residents will have access to the Apple Watch Series 4’s Electrocardiogram (ECG) feature when it launches. However, reports indicate that the restriction is software based and a simple tweak can unlock it for anyone.

All Apple Watch Series 4 devices come equipped with the ECG sensors regardless of which country you purchase it in. However, Apple received ‘de novo’ clearance from the FDA. This means when the feature is ready, Apple can turn it on for U.S. residents. While de novo isn’t the same as approval — and the FDA recommends those under 22 or those diagnosed with atrial fibrillation don’t use the feature — it still allows Apple to sell the watch. read more

You Can Now Listen to Audible on Your Apple Watch

Audible’s latest update brings the app to your Apple Watch, so you can listen to your audiobooks and podcasts without an iPhone. The new feature takes advantage of watchOS 5, which just rolled out this week to allow third-party apps like Audible to play background audio from the watch. Just make sure you sync the book from your iPhone before heading out, as the Apple Watch doesn’t support streaming from third-party apps yet.

The Audible app description mentions you can sync audiobooks to your Apple Watch via Bluetooth, but if you’re transferring over a big novel, it’ll probably take a while. But if you turn off bluetooth on your iPhone it should transfer over Wi-Fi faster. Once you do, you’re free to listen to your audiobook or podcast at the gym, or anywhere you take your Apple Watch. The Audible app lets you pause, rewind, or set a sleep timer from your watch. It’s available as a free download from the App Store. read more
